RFEA is deeply saddened to learn of the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh
We are all deeply saddened by the news of the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip was a truly exceptional and inspirational man in every way, hugely respected for his many years of active and dedicated service to our country and for his support to Her Majesty the Queen throughout her reign. He had a brilliant career in the Royal Navy, proven in wartime, and was widely loved and respected by those who served with him. His support to young people through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, which has given so many young people a purpose, passion and place in the world, has been a remarkable legacy. Loyal service does not get any greater than this.
I was proud to have met him as CO HMS Manchester when he visited the ship during Cowes Week. He was absolutely in his element onboard, lighting up the occasion with his joking and insightful questioning and demonstrating his legendary eye for detail. He always remained passionate about the Royal Navy and the Armed Forces.
Our deepest sympathies and condolences to our Royal Patron, Her Majesty the Queen, and to the other members of the Royal Family at this sad time.
Commodore Alistair Halliday, RN
